Gaudy, overpriced jewellery is as synonymous with rap as proclaiming love for your crew and boasting about your sexual prowess with groupies who sneak backstage after rushed PAs in sweaty clubs. Kanye said it best when he confessed he’d ‘rather buy 80 gold chains and go ig’nant’ than do something silly like invest his money wisely.

Ben Baller is a celebrity jeweller who makes expensive chains for rappers. He started out life as a DJ, where he was quickly promoted to a record exec role, working with artists like Master P, Dr Dre and Jay Z (Ben recently revealed that Jay left Priority Records because they wouldn’t buy him a Benz or fund his 50k per month mansion).

He eventually ended up making jewellery for Prince and Michael jackson, after the previous go-to celebrity jeweller Jacob was incarcerated for fraud. Here’s the first episode of his reality TV show where he makes a Mercedes emblem chain for Pusha T. Pusha T also wears a nice hat.
